Points included in the workshop on medicinal plants are:
-
collecting and drying herbs: what, when, where, how, why
-
extraction, infusion, decoction, syrup, compress: preparation and use
-
herbal oils and wax ointments: preparation and use
-
tinctures, medicinal wines and vinegars: preparation and use
-
making simple natural cosmetics
-
using the above preparations in ways that can increase their beneficial effects
Among others you learn how to prepare your own special skin care cream, using organic olive oil and pure beeswax.

Creams containing beeswax are a very specialized category of cosmetics with amazing properties. Their basic feature is that they do not contain water and therefore they can be preserved for long without the use of chemicals.
A minimum quantity is enough for one to feel their beneficial properties.
The thin film that is created by natural beeswax on the skin provides with strong protection against external contamination - while the skin is allowed to "breathe" at the same time.
It is not only anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory, but also boosts hydrating as it keeps the natural moisture “trapped” within the skin.
Olive oil, on the other hand, is rich in antioxidants with antiseptic and antibiotic properties. It is also rich in vitamin E, polyphenols, but also in chlorophyll, vitamin K, sodium and potassium, all essential for the health of our skin.

Different types of such ointments can be prepared, with or without herbal extracts, propolis, etc, according to skin type or specific use.

Special Guest: Galenus, who is mentioned as the first one (back in the second century AD) to have successfully mixed oily ingredients with water, thus preparing a cream most similar in texture to the products we use nowadays.
